DONINGTON PARK, UK – February 21, 2014 – Norton can today announce a partnership with
Zircotec. Their unique 99% pure Zirconia Ceramic coating reduces exhaust
temperatures by 33% and is suitable for applications up to 1400 degrees
C, the ceramic coating is plasma sprayed on to the exhaust at a
temperature of 10,000 degrees C.
It will reduce fuel usage and increase
the thermal efficiency of the engine, as well as significantly lowering
water temperatures.
Other benefits include reduced heat around the rear
shock unit which in turn will give greater consistency and less thermal
degradation to viscosity of the fluid within the shock reservoir which
can lead to softening of the shock action throughout the race, issues
like this are highlighted at races such as the long and enduring TT
Senior race which is held over approx 240 miles.
Technology like this,
once proven will slowly migrate to road bikes and could lead to many
different improvements for road use.
