Surfing for Life Foundation Stays the Course For 2014

The Surfing for Life Foundation continues its efforts in spreading cancer awareness to the surfing community. It has just released its list of charity recipients for the first quarter of 2014. Four times a year the Santa Barbara-California based non-profit organization, Surfing for Life Foundation, donates money to various cancer organizations around the country.

“We are thrilled to have assisted 13 different charities during the past 2 years of operation. These charities share a similar philosophy to ours in bringing cancer awareness to the surfing community”, states founder Tom Brown. “Cancer continues to affect everyone. It is our mission to help raise awareness about being proactive against the disease”.

Through the generosity of surf shops around the country the Surfing for Life Foundation is able to offer assistance to other cancer charities. The Surfing for Life Foundation is pleased to announce the following distribution for the 1st quarter ending March 31, 2014. Each of these organizations will receive a donation made possible by surfers, surf shops, and individuals supporting our mission:

Boarding for Breast Cancer
Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation
Santa Barbara Cancer Center
First Descents

The Surfing for Life Foundation was started in 2008 following Tom Brown’s diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer. He is a firm believer in taking action on the front end. “Many people do not know that 90% of cancers are curable if caught in the early stages. If we are proactive we can help control our own outcome”, states Brown. “This is why we do what we do”. Over the past two years, the Surfing for Life Foundation has raised more than $20,000.00 in the fight against cancer. There are currently 18,000 surfers wearing blue Surfing for Life wristbands. The wristbands are distributed in 220 surf shops in 26 countries around the world.

Support for the foundation continues to grow. A partial list of surf shops distributing the wristbands include; (California) E.T, Spyder, Surf Concepts, Dive N’ Surf, ZJ’s Boarding House, Encinitas Surf Shop, Bird’s Surf Shed, Patagonia, O’Neills, Mollusk, Dewey Weber, Hansens, Surf Ride, Surf N’ Wear, Aqua, and Channel Islands.(Hawaii) distributors include Quiksilver (Haleiwa), Turtle Bay Resort, Ola’a Banana Company, and North Shore Surf Shed.

“To every one of you who is making a difference, who is daily delivering the message of checkups, nutrition, well-being and love: to all of you, aheartfelt thanks,” concludes Brown. “Without you, Surfing for Life Foundation could not have accomplished what we did. I pledge to make 2014 an even bigger year for spreading awareness about cancer ONE WRISTBAND AT A TIME…”
