Black Diamond Equipment®, a global innovator in climbing, skiing and
mountain sports equipment, will showcase a Fall 2014 Collection at the
Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The 2014 line reflects Black Diamond’s
expertise as a community of users and makers dedicated to the creation
of revolutionary equipment and apparel.
“For over 25 years, the designers, engineers and employees of Black
Diamond have used their first-hand knowledge of climbing, skiing and
mountain sports to create next-level products,” says Ryan Gellert, Brand
President of Black Diamond Equipment. “We trust what we make because we
use what we make.”
In snow safety, Black Diamond introduces JetForce Technology, the first
avalanche airbag system to use electronically controlled jet-fan
inflation. Designed from the ground up to improve ease of use and
performance over traditional compressed-gas-cylinder systems, JetForce
Technology complements Black Diamond’s existing collection of snow
safety equipment that includes shovels, probes, AvaLung® backpacks and
PIEPS avalanche transceivers.
“Every time you go into avalanche terrain, the tools you bring only help
to stack the odds in your favor,” says Nathan Kuder, Category Director
for Packs at Black Diamond. “No piece of equipment can replace good
judgment, but the JetForce system, when paired with education and
experience, can create a critical margin of safety.”
Black Diamond also reaffirms its commitment to performance in
backcountry skiing with a new line of carbon fiber skis designed for
skiers who work for the down. The new Carbon Megawatt, Carbon Convert
and Carbon Aspect update some of Black Diamond’s most popular skis in
lightweight carbon fiber to offer freeride performance at minimum weight
In ice climbing, Black Diamond introduces the Fuel ice tool, featuring a
lightweight shaft hydroformed from a single piece of aluminum for a
lighter feel, superior swing and better handling. “No one else in the
industry is doing anything like the Fuel’s one-piece hydroformed shaft,”
says Kolin Powick, Black Diamond’s new Category Director for Climbing
Equipment. “It’s a quiver of one for the modern winter climber.
In headlamps, Black Diamond will introduce a completely redesigned Ion
headlamp, the lightest, smallest fully functional headlamp that runs on
AAA batteries. Weighing in at just one ounce, the Ion features a modern
touch-control housing and uses a DoublePower white LED and a SinglePower
red LED that emit an incredible 80 lumens on maximum power.
Now in its third season, Black Diamond Apparel continues its rapid
growth with the introduction of a complete line of technical outerwear
employing best-in-class fabrics from Gore®, PrimaLoft®, Shoeller® and
Polartec®. “Fundamentally, we’re toolmakers,” says Tim Bantle, Black
Diamond’s Director of Apparel. “These pieces are gear, the result of a
multi-year, intensive design and development process.”
Black Diamond will launch the first season of a new Women’s Apparel
line, designed to meet the needs of climbers and skiers in technical
terrain. Fit for purpose, the line combines a meticulous design and fit
process with the most advanced textiles available. Women familiar with
the performance of Black Diamond equipment will find hardshells,
softshells, insulation and merino wool styles that are essential
elements of their alpine toolkit
“We’re excited to be launching a complete collection for women as
part of our first full line of apparel,” says Bantle. “For both men and
women, our Fall 2014 Apparel Collection offers a truly a comprehensive
set of tools for climbers and skiers in alpine terrain.”
Included in Black Diamond’s Fall 2014 Apparel line is the debut of a
complete collection of technical hardshells. Black Diamond’s first
waterproof/breathable styles, including the Front Point Shell and Sharp
End Shell, feature GORE-TEX® fabrics with embedded Cohæsvie™ cord
management technology. Cohæsive is a patent-pending cord management
system that embeds and bonds 3D hardware components directly into the
garments’ fabric.
Also for men and women, Black Diamond will introduce its first
collection of technical down insulation. Fusing the benefits of natural
and synthetic insulations, PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation Down Blend remains
warm when wet, and is extremely durable both in construction and
weather resistance. Black Diamond’s Hot Forge and Cold Forge Parkas,
Hoodys and Jackets are uniquely suited to cold and variable conditions
“Black Diamond relocated to Utah so our employees would be in the
heart of one of the most accessible alpine mountain playgrounds in
America,” says Black Diamond CEO Peter Metcalf. “We use the insights
gained here to design and engineer new and truly innovative products
that take performance, safety and comfort to the next level. For Fall
2014, this
‘Use.Design.Engineer.Build.Repeat.’ culture has delivered
mind-blowing new products, from JetForce Technology, to our new line of
hand-made, super-light Carbon skis to our complete line of technical
mountain apparel for men and women.”
