With sales up 300% over the previous year, things are moving at a
breakneck pace at the RAMP Sports factory in Park City, UT, as the
company hustles to to fill orders for its sustainably hand-crafted skis
and snowboards before the snow flies. To meet the demand, RAMP has had
to bring on part time workers and enlist RAMP athletes, such as Brant
Moles and Chris Dakoulas, to mold skis while they wait for resorts to
open.
RAMP attributes the demand to several factors, including
the recent shift to U.S.-based production, its commitment to the
environment and advancements in materials, and ski manufacturing
technology.
“The factory has been working long hours to help
keep up with demand,” said Factory Tech Evan Howard. “When you’re a
passionate skier like the workers here in the RAMP factory, you put
emphasis on getting people their skis before the snow starts to fall,
even if that means I don’t get a full night of sleep until December.”
“We’re
very excited by the growth in the run up to winter ‘12/’13,” said CEO
and Founder of RAMP Sports Mike Kilchenstein. “We feel people are
responding to our bringing production to Park City, as well as the
advances in materials and manufacturing techniques we’ve been able to
build into in our new line of skis. The best part is once people start
skiing these new skis, the word of mouth will really take off. This will
be our first year of full production here in the U.S., and the
difference is noticeable.”
RAMP is currently accepting orders for
its full line of sustainably hand-crafted skis, but currently the wait
is around 2-3 weeks.
