LONG BEACH, Calif.--Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., a preeminent manufacturer of high-performance audio, video, computer and professional DJ equipment for the home, car and business markets, today unveiled all-new dual-leg power meter crank sets and SGX-CA500 Cycle-Computer designed for serious enthusiasts determined to elevate their cycling performance to the next level.
The robust power meter is the first system to achieve on-bike, real-time, left and right pedaling power measurements and analysis that enable users to develop a better and more efficient pedaling technique for increased power output and improved riding performance.
Within each left and right pedal stroke, the system independently precisely measures torque, force location, and force angle at 12 different points of the rotation. The exclusive Force Vector display featured in the SGX-CA500 Cycle-Computer graphically communicates each leg’s power output, pedaling efficiency, power loss, torque and force angle. The highly detailed and comprehensive performance analysis gives riders more knowledge of their riding techniques and can be used for routine ride sessions, training and coaching purposes.
For further analysis of the rider’s performance parameters, Pioneer’s free online service, Cyclo-Sphere, presents more than 200 data points that are illustrated in detail utilizing a variety of graphs, charts and maps.
“Passionate riders know that ‘power is king’ and in order to reach the next level in performance, power and efficiency must be increased,” said David Bales, manager of new business for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “Our engineers, who are avid riders themselves, set out to take power measurement well beyond today’s norm. Output analysis of both legs and understanding where and how power is applied will help riders elevate their game.”
Pioneer Dual-Leg Power Meter Crank Sets
As a leading manufacturer of advanced consumer electronic products, Pioneer developed proprietary technology incorporated into the power meter that accurately analyzes the pedaling stroke using six independent sensors (three located on each side of the crank). At every 30 degrees of each rotation, the robust design captures a variety of torque data that is continuously transmitted via a special Ant+™ stream.
The Pioneer power meter will be offered as complete crank sets with both Shimano® Dura-Ace® 9000 and Ultegra® 6800 cranks available in more than 38 different configurations varying in assorted crank arm lengths and chain ring set-ups. Adding only 66 grams of weight to the original Shimano cranks, the Pioneer system will be one of the lightest crank-based meters and the only dual-leg power meter on the market.
Additional features:
- Wireless transmitter
-
Operating time: up to 120 hours (two CR2032 batteries included)
- User replaceable batteries
- IPX6 & IPX7 water resistance certified
- Resistant to oil and environmental conditions
- Patch / Arm type magnet included (installation required)
- Ant+ compatible (total power, independent left and right power)
- Weight: 66g (including L & R sensors)
- Accuracy: +/- 2%
Designed to be extremely light and compact, the new SGX-CA500 Cycle-Computer is the ideal interface used with the Pioneer Power Meter crank sets. The lightweight display utilizes a 1.87-inch black and white LCD touch screen to provide a window of data including Pioneer’s exclusive left and right force vector information. The robust computer can access and display left and right power output, pedaling stroke efficiency, power loss, force vector analysis, torque, cadence, heart rate, GPS positioning, speed, distance, elevation gain/loss, barometric pressure, ambient temperature, and more.
The display interface is highly customizable and features six programmable screens, six bike profiles, and 4-gigabytes of memory for ride event storage. Up to nine data points can be seen on the same window for instantaneous and continuous performance feedback. Tested to withstand the harshest riding environments, the SGX-CA500 is IPX 6 and 7 certified for moist and wet conditions.
For convenience, the SGX-CA500 features Wi-Fi that can automatically upload collected data for after-ride analysis. The system (when connected to a home network) can be automated to wirelessly transfer the information to Pioneer’s Cyclo-Sphere online service.
Additional features:
- Mono LCD (160 x 128) pixel resolution
- Weight: 75 grams
- Built-in GPS for tracking and positioning
- Barometer and thermometer
- Rechargeable built-in Li-ion battery (up to 12 hours operating time)
- ANT+ module to pair it with industry standard ANT+ sensors
- Cadence/speed capable / heart rate monitor (component sold separately)
- Bar Mount cradle
- Optional TT Bar Mount available
- Micro USB cable for power charging and data transfer
- Wi-Fi compatibility
Pioneer’s Cyclo-Sphere lets riders transfer and share more than 200 performance metrics collected by the system via a single USB or Wi-Fi connection to a computer. The free online cloud service provides history management and route viewing (by date, map or ride list). With Pioneer’s expertise in global positioning technology, the service enables interactive analysis (eight GPS ride-points connected cross tabs) from a single screen with the ability to log ride sessions and track histories.
The Pioneer Power Meter will be available as a complete crank set with a suggested retail price of $1850 for the Dura-Ace 9000 and $1550 for the Ultegra 6800 configuration.
The SGX-CA500 Cycle-Computer will be available with a suggested retail price of $300. All models will be available in mid-March.
