NEW YORK, June 17, 2014 -- Equinox, the upscale fitness and high performance lifestyle leader, launched the first phase of an elevated digital experience with the introduction of a new iOS mobile app and complete website redesign.
In an effort to unify devices and create a deeper level of personalization, both the app and website have undergone design and interaction enhancements.
One of the most breakthrough aspects of the rollout is that the relaunched app will capture data from members' wearable devices and provide a simplified visualization of activity and movement accumulated inside and outside of Equinox clubs.
Equinox is committed to helping members maximize every minute of their fitness lifestyle which is why the app and site are customized for each individual member giving them one-click access to their schedule, data and curated content all in one place.
"With our redesigned app and website, we're looking at members' behavior, in addition to their quantified self data, to provide them with recommendations, tips and content to inform and improve their fitness routines," said Carlos Becil, Chief Marketing Officer, Equinox. "We're delivering an unparalleled experience and creating a motivational environment to push our members toward their goals."
Equinox has unified its digital platforms in order to provide a seamless user experience while incorporating wearable technology to support members' fitness aspirations, simplify their lives and drive their results.. From pre-workout planning to post-working tracking, the new app and site are with members each step of the way, providing actionable information in regards to movement, nutrition and regeneration.
Key capabilities and enhancements include:
Track Your Moves, Maximize Results
To give members a complete look at their fitness activities, the app includes a key feature, "Activity," which aggregates data from members' devices into three areas to track progression: calories, distance and sessions. Members can monitor fitness activity on a daily and monthly basis. In addition to capturing quantified self data, the app has Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities for data entry for those without a fitness device; members simply snap a picture of their workout (i.e. a treadmill dashboard with calorie and distance information) and upload it to the app which is automatically added to the "sessions" tracker. Members also have the option to track via third party apps such as MapMyFitness and MyFitnessPal on the Equinox app.
Personalization at Your Fingertips
Outside of data tracking, the new unified sites provide a deeper layer of personalization for members. Based on behavior and member preferences, the app generates curated content such as recommended workouts to switch up routines and suggested articles from Equinox's online magazine, Q, on various wellness topics. Additionally, the app and website allow users to engage in emotional browsing ("Make Me"), which offers immediate class recommendations based on mood to keep members engaged and challenge them to try something new.
Get Connected
To foster engagement and a sense of community, the app allows members to share activity with friends on social platforms. Members can connect to coordinate class schedules, create fitness groups and goal set with peers. The app also incorporates enhanced features such as the ability to book-a-bike on the go and booking notifications, essentially serving as a countdown clock for when members can reserve coveted class spots. For Book a Bike, members can reserve a bike for studio cycling classes directly from their mobile device.
"The app and website's new capabilities and features are in place to create a highly personalized experience for our members," said Matt Burton, Director of Digital Marketing for Equinox. "We've created a useful tool to better serve our members so each individual can see a holistic view of their health in one place."
