Business news Groupe Go Sport's Courrir Banner Post Sold Comps Growth in 2012

Consolidated net sales at Groupe Go Sport, the third largest retailer of sporting goods in France, reached €675.6m ($905 bb)  in 2012, up 0.7 percent on a same-store basis on a currency-neutral basis. At Courir, the company specialty running banner, sales increased for the third year in a row, with a +3.2 percent same-store growth, confirming that the success of its new concept is a lasting one.

GO Sport sales in France slightly decreased, on a same-store basis (-0.6 percent). GO Sport sales in Poland increased by 5.3 percent on a same-store basis and with constant exchange rates.

Groupe GO Sport EBITDA and current operating income reached respectively €9.3m and €-9.8m, up compared to 2011, due to a strong increase of both indicators in the second half of the year. The improvement was attributed to overall cost control and in particular by well-managed personnel expenses and reduced inventory shortage.

Majority owner Rallye said 2013 would be a year of construction for Groupe GO Sport aimed at preparing for the launch of a growth strategy for both Courir and GO Sport based on the catalysts of its franchising business and e-commerce.

Rallye, which guaranteed Courir’s €30 million capital raise last year, ended the year with €350 million in cash and cash equivalents.  A global retailer, Ralley owns the Casino Supermarket chain as well as several discount, convenience store chain and petrol chains,
