SEATTLE, Wash. – Whether it’s a 6-mile run out the back door, a
50-mile Ultra or simply spending all day getting in and out of the high
peaks, high-exertion activities are staple for Outdoor Research
employees and customers alike. That’s what HighEx™ is all about.
In Spring 2013, Outdoor Research introduced its HighEx™apparel line
as a way to underscore its growing commitment to apparel, gloves,
headwear and accessories in this category. In many ways, the hallmark of
good endurance gear is that you don’t notice it when you’re deep into
the 12-hour day.
It transports moisture, provides sun protection,
resists odor, and doesn’t chafe – effectively becoming a second skin
that doesn’t call attention to itself so that you can concentrate on the
job at hand.
For Spring 2014, the brand continues evolving its HighEx™ line with
new tops, shorts and gloves for male and female endurance athletes.
Ignitor Tee –
A versatile, lightweight technical tee is a core
building block of summer fun – the kind of shirt you grab nine times
out of ten for a multitude of different warm-weather sports. The newest
addition to this Outdoor Research family starts with a wicking,
quick-drying 100-percent heathered polyester fabric that has good body
and drape without being heavy. Then add in UPF 15 sun protection,
polygiene treatment to keep odor at bay, two-tone flat-lock seams that
won’t chafe, reflective trim and logos for subtle-yet-well-placed
visibility, and a hip pocket that accommodates an MP3 player, and the
result is just the right combo of features. The Ignitor Tee is available
in short-sleeve and long-sleeve versions so you can choose your level
of sun and weather protection, and also available in men’s and women’s
specific styles. $49 and $59.
Men’s Turbine Shorts –
A two-in-one short that features an
integrated spandex boxer-brief, the men’s Turbine Shorts are a
go-anywhere, do-anything piece that are as home hiking into the alpine
as they are heading to the gym on a bad-weather day. Made with a
polyester/spandex fabric, the 5-ounce Turbine wicks moisture, dries
quickly, provides UPF 50 sun protection, and has excellent stretch for
mobility. Finer points include subtle reflective trim and logos, a
7-inch inseam, and a zippered back pocket and an elastic waist with a
drawcord. $59.
Women’s Turbine Shorts –
Designed as a go-anywhere,
do-anything short, the women’s Turbine Shorts share that concept with
the men’s shorts of the same name, but the parallels stop there. Outdoor
Research’s women designers went to work on a flattering, exceptionally
well-fitting women’s specific design that’s game for trail running, an
all-day trip into the mountains, or perhaps a weather-day visit to the
gym. Made with a polyester/spandex fabric, the 3.6-ounce women’s Turbine
wicks moisture, dries quickly, provides UPF 50 sun protection and has
excellent stretch for mobility. Finer points include subtle reflective
trim and logos, a stretch mesh inner brief, a 4.5-inch inseam, a
zippered back pocket and an elastic waist with a drawcord. $49.
Men’s Scorcher Shorts –
Whether you’re out for a quick trail
run over lunch or sprinting up a
13,000-foot peak, the 4.7-ounce
Scorcher Shorts are at home for everything from ultras to training. Made
out of a wicking, quick-drying polyester fabric with UPF 50 sun
protection, they feature an internal stretch mesh inner brief, subtle
reflective trims and logos for visibility, a zippered back pocket and an
elastic waist with a drawcord. Everything you need to move fast. Just
add momentum. $49.
Hot Pursuit Convertible Running Gloves –
As the name implies,
these highly adjustable gloves allow customization when the day starts
out cold and gives way to bluebird, or when the unexpected is what’s
expected. Built for versatility, the Hot Pursuit Convertible Running
Gloves offer full wind and weather resistance with a protective nylon
ripstop lobster claw overmitt that covers the glove’s quick-drying
fleece fingers. As temperatures climb or weather backs off, tuck the
shell away cleanly in a low-profile wrist pocket. Details include
touchscreen compatibility on the first finger and thumb, a nose wipe on
the side of the thumb, radiant fleece on the palm and back of hand, and a
reflective logo for visibility. $35.
Speed Sensor Gloves –
Combine breathable, wicking polyester
fabric, a touchscreen compatible fingertip and thumb, microfleece
lining, a terrycloth nose wipe on the thumb, and reflective trim and
logos for safety, and you get the new Speed Sensor Gloves. Everything
you need on a quick morning run – and nothing you don’t. $29.
Hot Pursuit Convertible Wrist Warmers –
When you need to
safeguard your fingers in the early morning but know the weather will
soon be warming, reach for the Hot Pursuit Convertible Wrist Warmers. A
open-palm radiant fleece mitt with reflective trim keeps your digits
warm, and once temperatures rise, you can tick them into a wrist pocket,
leaving you wearing only wrist warmers – and no need to stuff gloves
into a jacket pocket. $25.
About Outdoor Research
Outdoor Research® is Designed by
Adventure®. We provide Innovation and Inspiration for the Relentless
Adventurer. Based in Seattle – with in-house manufacturing and
prototyping capabilities at our company headquarters – Outdoor Research
was founded in 1981 after a failed piece of gear on an Alaskan climbing
expedition inspired ideas for a better design. Ever since that first
product, the X-Gaiter, put Outdoor Research on the map, we have been
dedicated to building better outdoor apparel, gloves, hats and an array
of other outdoor accessories informed by real-world testing. We develop
innovative, functional, bomb-proof products that are beautiful in their
simplicity. Design abides by the maxim ‘make it better, not just new or
different,’ and our gear is backed by our Infinite Guarantee®. We listen
to, value and empower each other and our fellow adventurers – we invite
input from our customers, athlete ambassadors and the International
Federation of Mountain Guides Associations Test Team. We’re
independent, letting us strive to provide the best value to our
customers, not shareholders. We are committed to our core sports:
alpinism, rock and ice climbing, hiking, backpacking, paddling, trail
running, and skiing and snowboarding. We’re growing, as a company and as
individuals. And we’re having fun along the way.
