Patagonia Rover Shoe Wins Outside’s 2014 Gear of the Year Award
VENTURA, Calif. (April 10, 2014) – Patagonia has won Outside
Magazine’s prestigious Gear of the Year award for its go-anywhere trail
shoe, the Rover. A serious scrambler, the Rover bridges the gap between
running and climbing by combining the best attributes of a minimalist
trail running shoe with a variable lacing system and dual zone sticky
rubber sole for fast and vertical endeavors. www.patagonia.com/footwear.
“This award from Outside is a huge honor,” said Sue Harvey Brown,
marketing manager of Patagonia Footwear. “This is our second Gear of the
Year in the trail shoe category in the last four years.
Winning Gear of
the Year again is a true reflection of our mission to build the best
and most versatile product while minimizing its footprint. We thank
Outside and their gear testers for this validation.”
“It was simply the most versatile shoe we tested this year,” says
Buyer’s Guide editor Sam Moulton. “We hiked, ran, climbed, and just
about everything in between in it. A lot of shoes claim to be
multi-sport shoes. The Rover really is.”
Blurring the lines between running, climbing and hiking, the Rover
features an abrasion- resistant air mesh and synthetic leather upper
with a toe rand that balances protection and lightweight breathability.
A
self-centering, stretch-gusseted tongue sheds debris and a forefoot
plate protects against rocks.
This highly technical multi-sport shoe
features Patagonia’s proprietary Nanotrak rubber: extra sticky rubber in
the shallow tread of the forefoot for superior grip on smooth rock;
more durable rubber in the deeper lugged heel for durability and
traction on loose surfaces.
To further promote the award, the Patagonia Footwear team will be:
sending shoe talkers, signage and digital assets to dealers who have
ordered the product; seeding shoes to outdoor bloggers for giveaways;
and sharing a video short of Rover co-conspirer and Patagonia in-house
photographer Jeff Johnson on an outdoor “circuit” with the Rover.
