Mar. 27, 2014 - CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- OutdoorGearLab, an established website that publishes free, detailed comparison reviews of outdoor gear, has published a review of the best ski pants for men. Six popular models were put to the test by backcountry ski guides, avalanche instructors, and skilled recreational skiers.
Each pair was worn for countless runs in-bounds while riding lifts at Mammoth Mountain, California and on short tours in the Sierra backcountry. These top designs were evaluated and compared on the metrics of warmth, style, ventilation, weather resistance, fit and comfort, and features.
According to review editor Jediah Porter, snow pants were found to be an important addition to any winter sports enthusiast's closet, because while one person may own several jackets for different occasions, temperatures, and weather, typically a person only owns one pair of ski pants. With this in mind, Porter determined that the purchase of a pair of these pants is a decision that requires a bit of thoughtful consideration. After extensive testing in varying weather conditions, Porter gave awards to the top performers for Editors' Choice, Best Buy, and Top Pick selections.

Patagonia Powder Bowl Pants
http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/
In comparison to other similar products, lead tester Jediah Porter found the Patagonia Powder Bowl Pants to epitomize a top-performing, all-around quality product, which is what wins them the Editors' Choice Award. These pants are uninsulated, have a durable and weather resistant exterior material, and a soft hanging mesh lining on the interior. According to Porter, this design makes these pants comfortable and versatile in diverse climates and weather cycles. Additionally, these pants are designed with vents on the outer side of the legs, allowing airflow when the wearer is skiing or skinning hard. Based on the conducted tests, Porter concludes that this pair from Patagonia can function equally well on a warm, dry, sunny day or a wet, cold storm day.
The North Face Freedom Pant

Providing a combination of durability, function, and style while being available at a reasonable price, The North Face Freedom Pants earn a Best Buy award. With a neutral style, Porter finds these pants to be appealing to skiers of all ages and levels of ability. Test results showed these pants to provide adequate weather protection due to a waterproof face material, and decent ventilation from mesh-backed vents situated on the inside of the legs. For a skier on a budget or for someone who wants to save money to put towards purchasing more lift tickets, Porter highly recommends The North Face Freedom Pants.
Mammut Bormio Pants

As an insulated pair of pants, the Mammut Bormio takes the Top Pick award for the specialized application of wearing during extreme cold temperatures. Porter notes that this product actually emerged as the highest scorer in his comparison tests, but due to the insulation which makes the pants less versatile, he chose to award these pants a Top Pick instead of an Editors' Choice. These pants were found to provide an excellent degree of warmth and also to provide outstanding ventilation from vents placed on the inside of the legs. Incidentally, these were also found to be the best looking pants in a poll of multiple male testers.
The complete review provides a detailed comparison of all six pairs of tested pants and explains which ones performed the best for each metric. Additionally, there is a complementary Buying Advice guide to help steer a first time buyer towards the right pair of ski pants to purchase by raising important considerations. OutdoorGearLab also features detailed reviews comparing ski gloves and ski jackets for both men and women in order to aid a customer in purchasing a head-to-toe ski kit. Reviews of ski helmets and ski boots are slated to be published later in 2014.
