Salt Lake Comic Con Partners with The Hero Dash to Promote Heroes and Fitness and Raise Money for Good Causes

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 9, 2014 -- Public phone booths in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah will be making a comeback in popularity and use on Saturday, October 25, 2014 as local heroes change into costume and don their capes and running shoes for Salt Lake Comic Con's (http://saltlakecomiccon.com/) The Hero Dash to benefit Operation Underground Railroad and the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

The Hero Dash is a five-kilometer (5K) run and walk where participants dress up as their favorite hero to promote heroes and fitness, have fun and do some good by raising money and awareness for worthwhile causes. The Hero Dash is expected to draw more than 1,000 participants.

Operation Underground Railroad was created to rescue kidnapped children from slavery and sex trafficking. There are nearly 2 million children trapped in sex slavery worldwide. The organization enlists the help, participation and expertise of former CIA, Navy Seals and special agents to work closely with local law enforcement and government to locate and extract trafficked children from their captors.

The Huntsman Cancer Institute's mission is to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention and care.

"We're passionate about having fun as well as supporting good causes and The Hero Dash allows us to pursue both passions," said Dan Farr, Salt Lake Comic Con Founder and Show Producer. "Both Operation Underground Railroad and the Huntsman Cancer Institute are focused on such important issues that we are honored to support them and create more awareness about their efforts and raise money for the important work they do. We know our fans share our same passions and are grateful to them for their ongoing support of us as well as these important community causes."

The Hero Dash pre-registration began on Friday, September 26, 2014. The race costs $30.00 for adults through pre-registration and is $45 the day of the event. Kids ages 11-16 cost $15 pre-registration and $20 the day of the event. Kids 11 and under are free. A portion of every ticket sale goes to charity. The pre-registration deadline is midnight, October 24, 2014. Onsite registration for The Hero Dash begins at 8:00 am MDT at The Gateway. The race begins at 9:00 am.

Registration includes entrance to the run, a The Hero Dash t-shirt, a race bib, car decal and more gear and prizes from race sponsors. Registration packets can be picked up the day before the Hero Dash and on site.

The Hero Dash route will start and finish at The Gateway Fountains and runs North along 400 West to 800 North and then back to the finish line at the Gateway Fountains. A special kids run will go through The Gateway and back to the Fountains.

"Everybody can be a hero and while the people involved in Operation Underground Railroad and the Huntsman Cancer Institute are heroes everyday, The Hero Dash gives our fans an opportunity not only to dress like, but be heroes as well," said Bryan Brandenburg, Salt Lake Comic Con Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer. "On the opening day of FanX last April, Governor Gary R. Herbert declared April 17, 2014 Salt Lake Comic Con Hero's Day and talked about how we can be heroes for each other to make Utah and the communities where we live, work and play a better place. Events like this allow us to be the solution and continue that pledge every day. The Hero Dash is an opportunity to unleash the hero inside each and every one of us."
