Japan is the world's second largest sporting goods market.
After the United States, Japan is the second largest market for sporting goods and equipment. Generating an estimated 1310 billion JPY (10 billion euros) in annual revenues, the Japanese market is rapidly expanding, and has grown 3.2% since 2012.
The main sources of growth are in running, hard goods and footwear for outdoor sports (hiking and trail running). Analysts predict that the sportswear market in Japan will grow 2% per year from now through 2018.
The outdoor sports equipment market represented an estimated 182 billion JPY (1.4 billion euros) in 2014, up 45 billion JPY from 2009.
