MIPS Signs New Snow Helmet Partners and Introduces 16 Styles

STOCKHOLM (January 29, 2015) – MIPS AB, the patented Multi-directional Impact Protection System, will be available in 16 new snow helmet models next season offering skiers and snowboarders more opportunities than ever to choose the best head protection available. MIPS will be available in men’s, women’s and youth styles from newly signed partners Giro, Smith and Cairn, as well as in new models from long-standing partners Sweet, Scott and Rossignol.

“We had an incredible year in 2014. MIPS added 22 new brand partners and will be integrated into over 80 helmets across all categories by early 2015,” says Johan Thiel, MIPS CEO. “Our hope is for MIPS to be a non-negotiable technology in any sport that requires a helmet, so adding partners and helmet styles proves beneficial to active participants in a multitude of sports.”

MIPS technology in helmets reduces the rotational forces to the brain during an oblique impact. Helmets are designed to absorb direct impacts but when combined with MIPS, they absorb oblique forces by allowing a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner. This technology mimics the function of cerebral spinal fluid in the human head and adds a second layer of safety that can reduce damage to the brain during impact.
