NEMO’s Sonic™ Sleeping Bag Wins Backpacker’s Editors’ Choice Award

Just eleven products were awarded Backpacker magazine’s most coveted Editors’ Choice award in its Spring Gear Guide. NEMO’s Sonic™ zero degree sleeping bag was among that distinguished group. Hundreds of products were put forward and tested, but after months of field testing, only the fittest survived.

“The Sonic™ has incredible range, thanks to the core vents (NEMO’s proprietary Thermo Gills™). When they were zipped up, we stayed warm right down to the 0-degree rating, and when we opened them wide, we remained comfortable up to 40 degrees,” said Kristin Hostetter, Backpacker Gear Editor.

Since its inception, the Backpacker Editors’ Choice Award has become regarded as the most sought-after award for outdoor equipment and apparel. All winners must excel under extensive field testing conducted by Backpacker’s team of editors, who take hundreds of products into the backcountry to put them to the test. This rigorous process ensures that the performance of the winners is truly worthy of distinction and meets the guiding principle behind the program: to call out gear that is of real value to the readers of Backpacker magazine, who are active, long-term outdoor enthusiasts.

“We’re proud that Sonic™ was recognized by Backpacker’s editors for its innovation and performance. When we started working on sleeping bags a few years ago, our mission was to inject some new thinking into the category. Sonic™ offers a better experience than typical 4 season bags by adjusting to a range of temperatures. It’s a new idea that really improves the user experience and that’s always our goal,” said Cam Brensinger, Founder and CEO of NEMO.

Sonic™ brings technology called Thermo Gills™ from NEMO’s award-winning Canon™ -40 degree sleeping bag, which allows the user to regulate the internal temperature of the bag without letting in cold drafts. Stretch construction at the knees enhances volume for side sleepers but keeps the interior air volume small for thermal efficiency. Utilizing 850 fill power duck down in the hood and body with a blend of down and synthetic in the foot box, Sonic™ packs down small and weighs just 2 lbs., 11 oz. Sonic™ and the rest of NEMO’s 2015 line can be found at www.nemoequipment.com or through specialty retailers.

NEMO was founded in 2002 with the mission of making the highest quality and most innovative products for outdoor adventure. Thirteen years later, the company continues to push boundaries. The goal is always to improve the experience of adventure.
