Backbone Media Fall 2015 Showroom Product Highlights

Backbone Media amplifies active lifestyle brands to expand their communities and cultivate lasting connections. For over 16 years, Backbone has worked with leading outdoor gear, apparel, technology, food and beverage brands, as well as tourism destinations around the world. Backbone has offices in Carbondale and Denver, Colorado, and Jackson, Wyoming.

Over 75 journalists, bloggers, photographers, stylists, and publishers turned out for Backbone's semiannual Manhattan showroom in early April. Seen below are some of Fall 2015's most highly anticipated products from brands like POC, Grundens, Hoka One One, and others.

POC

Auric Helmet — Swedish brand POC developed the Auric helmet in collaboration with Olympian Aaron Blunck. The lightweight helmet has a durable ABS shell and multi-impact EPP liner, which is strategically thicker in the most exposed areas. The Auric provides increased protection for the ears and temples, and is compatible for use with a beanie and goggles underneath. The Auric will be available for retail in late 2015. $120.00

Fovea Goggle — The Fovea has also been developed in collaboration with POC team athlete, Aaron Blunck. The Fovea goggle has a spherical shape that ensures maximum vertical and peripheral vision. The double lens is made of optical grade PC/CP and provides superior optical performance. The lens is anti-scratch and anti-fog treated and has ventilation slots to improve air flow and reduce fogging. The soft-coated PU frame conforms to your face and maintains its flexibility even in cold temperatures and the triple layer face foam ensures a comfortable fit. The Fovea will be available for retail in late 2015. $140.00

FluidStance

The Level — Brings motion to any common workspace or meeting area. CFS Jacket — The CFS is the perfect lightweight summer jacket. Good for watersports, trail running or bouldering, it cuts the wind and blocks the sun. Available now. $139.00

Second Light Jacket — This jacket is built for the athlete that can’t do without his morning run. It blocks morning chill and breathes efficiently. Available now. $109.00

Smartwool

Men's Corbet 120 Jacket — The new SmartLoft Corbet 120 midlayer collection features 120-gram wool-based insulation in a variety of styles for men and women. All garments feature Merino lining for comfort, and wind-resistant nylon face material treated with DWR finish to protect from the elements. The Corbet collection is geared toward stop-and-go activities like lift-served skiing, snowshoeing, and everyday mountain-town living. Part of the Fall 2015 collection—in stores in August. $200.00

Women's PhD Light Long Sleeve — The PhD Light line of crew and zip-neck tops for men and women features an intimate Merino/polyester blend to optimize the garments’ wicking capabilities under high exertion. PhD Light garments feature minimal Merrow seams for durability and SmartWool’s construction technique results in Merino remaining next to skin to deliver unparalleled  comfort. Part of the Fall 2015 collection—in stores in August. $85.00

HOKA ONE ONE 

Speedgoat — The HOKA ONE ONE Speedgoat, inspired by ultrarunner Karl Meltzer, is built to tackle technical terrain. The no-sew upper provides support through the forefoot and a ground-rubber toe cap provides increased toe protection. The Vibram rubber outsole features 4mm lugs and trail-specific outsole flex grooves to provide lightweight traction and stability on the trails. Available July 2015. $130.00

Tor Ultra High WP — The HOKA ONE ONE Tor Ultra Hi WP combines HOKA’s signature running shoe cushioning and Meta-Rocker geometry with a supporting trekking upper. Vibram MegaGrip outsole rubber with 5mm lugs provides traction over both dry and wet terrain. Leather and a tough nylon mesh upper provide support around the foot and ankle while Event waterproofing keeps feet dry. Available July 2015. $230.00

Grundens 

Weather Watch Jacket — With 8,000mm waterproofing and 3,000mvp breathability, the jacket can roll up into a small package, but be ready to use at sudden notice. Grundens is a Swedish company that has a long history making the toughest, foul weather gear for commercial fishermen. Their gear  is commonly featured on the popular TV show, Deadliest Catch. The Weather Watch Jacket is available this fall. $62.50

La Sportiva

Synthesis — A mid-cut versatile hiker with highly breathable Gore-Tex Suround technology designed for moving fast on all types of hiking terrain. Available at specialty retailers beginning July 1. $180.00
