COWES, U.K. — The Premier Composite Technologies-built Farr 280 has won two prestigious ‘Boat of the Year’ awards.

The US sailing magazine Sailing World named the Farr 280 as overall ‘Boat of the Year’ after testing 15 performance sailboats. The independent judging panel cited the Farr 280’s superb construction quality as one of its best attributes, and also praised the boat for its high level of control and responsiveness, its innovation and performance.

Judge and boat-builder Tom Rich commented: “What I like about the boat is that it’s innovative, and they’re not trying to be everything to everybody,” said Rich. “They made a grand-prix, go-fast, one-design boat—that’s it.”

On January 9, 2015, Yachts & Yachting magazine also named the Farr 280 as the winner of the ‘Performance Boat (Under 40ft)’ category in its 2015 Awards. Six high-performance designs were nominated by the editorial team, with the winner voted for by readers and sailors around the world.
Yachts & Yachting reviewer Rupert Holmes commented: “In an era in which inshore racing all too often favours relatively heavy designs, with accommodation that will never get used, the Farr 280 is a welcome breath of fresh air. It provides everything that’s needed for highly competitive and adrenaline fuelled competition.”

The Farr 280 is manufactured by the Dubai based dynamic composite’s specialists, Premier Composites Technologies, using E-glass reinforcement, infused with epoxy resin for resilience and performance. The hull and deck are constructed from Corecell, while the fixed T-keel features a lead bulb, GRP fin shell and steel fin. The use of precision milled tooling, high build quality and strict infusion controls ensures a high level of accuracy, with a variation in hull weight between boats of less than 5kgs.

The boat was designed with a One Design rule in mind from the outset, guaranteeing true level racing, as well as high performance and highly controllable fun.

“Having been selected ahead of a number of other boat-builders for this project, we are delighted with the progress that is being achieved.” Comments Max Waimer. “With Farr 280’s already located in the USA, UK, Italy, Switzerland, UAE and Turkey, within the first eight months, this bodes well for Farr’s objective of creating yet another truly, One Design Grand Prix Class and we are delighted to be building these exciting craft.”
