Premier specialty sporting goods retailer provides recommendations on the best gear to equip athletes for the 2015 fitness trends
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6, 2015 -- With the new year upon us, the ever-changing landscape of the fitness industry introduces athletes to new trends and gear to embrace in 2015, and according to the American Council on Exercise, the types of fitness activities athletes participate in and how they go about doing so will be smarter and more efficient. Premier sporting goods retailer Sport Chalet reports its own predictions of which fitness items and activities will be popular based on ongoing trends and upcoming technology.
"2014 was the year we saw high intensity interval training and CrossFit become more popular than ever," said Sport Chalet Expert Paul Smedley. "This year, from an equipment standpoint, we will really see people looking for gear that will help them stick to their goals and make their workouts even more enjoyable than before."
Smedley provides his insight on various aspects of fitness gear and activities that will make waves in 2015:
- Barre and other barefoot workouts. Barre workouts come packed with benefits for its athletes, such as increased flexibility, rapid results and low impact on joints. This workout also can be done with little to no experience, opening up the doors for amateurs as they seek to fulfill New Year's resolutions. For these specific types of exercises, items like the Nike Studio Wrap Pack 2 are great to have when getting ready for class.
- Treadmill training. In 2015, it's predicted that studios specifically created for treadmill training will become more popular. Studios outfitted with only treadmills will help runners maintain and improve their fitness throughout the year. With cross-training shoes designed specifically for cardio activities, such as the Nike Men's Zoom Pegasus 31 Running Shoe and the Saucony Women's Guide 7 Running Shoe, runners can effectively train no matter if they're running on the machine indoors or outside.
- Equipment that speeds up recovery. Maximizing workout time and minimizing recovery time are two trends to watch out for in the upcoming year. Having massage and stretching items like the Trigger Point's The GRID Foam Roller and the Rejuvenation Stretch & Flex Kit, fitness aficionados can take their performance to the next level in a short amount of time.
Indoor/outdoor cycling. 2014 saw a surge of spin-goers, and that isn't likely to change. However, what is anticipated is that more people will go outdoors to cycle. Those who want to take the bike outside can enjoy the Shimano WR32 Women's Road Cycling Shoe or the Shimano SH-R078 Men's Cycling Shoe, which provide snug, durable and breathable fits that transfer power to the pedal and comfort to the rider.
- High Intensity Interval Training: As a popular form of fitness last year, HIIT will once again remain popular, due to its extreme effectiveness. For this type of activity, sweat-wicking apparel is a must. Items including Under Armour Women's Waffle Crew and Nike Men's Core Fitted SS Top 2.0 will keep participants dry even during the most challenging intervals.
