Sierra Designs Mobile Mummy wins praise from Outside Magazine, nets 2014 Gear of the Year Award

Designed to perform like a wearable garment, the Mobile Mummy revolutionizes overnight backcountry comfort and convenience

BOULDER, COLO. – Sierra Designs is proud to announce the Mobile Mummy sleep system is a 2014 winner of Outside Magazine’s coveted Gear of the Year Award, one of the most prominent awards given to outdoor gear and apparel. VIDEO

Designed to improve upon the outdated mummy-style sleeping bag, the Mobile Mummy fits more like a garment to move with you as you sleep. This allows back, side, and stomach sleepers to stay comfortable and roll around without becoming tangled in the bag.

“The traditional mummy bag is efficient at retaining heat, but is totally deficient when it comes to comfort and functionality because it’s claustrophobic and constrictive,” said Michael Glavin, VP of Sierra Designs. “We created the Mobile Mummy to provide freedom from the constrictive entaglement of the traditional mummy while allowing you the versatility to cook, read, and keep warm while walking around camp. You won’t get tangled up inside it like you will with a mummy bag.”

Each and every product considered for a Gear of the Year Award is thoroughly tested and evaluated by a team of seasoned outdoor enthusiasts and equipment experts who know great gear when they see it.

“Of the two-dozen or so bags we tested this year, the Mobile Mummy 800 was simply the most versatile,” says Outside Magazine Buyer’s Guide editor Sam Moulton. “It moves with you, you can wear it like a jacket and walk around or just stick your arms out to read or cook. Plus it’s highly compressible and, because it’s stuffed with water-resistant down, you don’t have to worry as much about moisture. It stayed impressively lofty during a soggy camping trip and dried quickly when the sun came out.”

The Mobile Mummy is an 800-fill DriDown™ bag designed to fit more like a garment so you can sleep on your back, side, or stomach without feeling constrained or suffocated.  Zipperless armports allow you to use your hands while fully zipped in and a stowable footbox can be tucked up and toggled out of the way for walking around camp.  A centered, front zipper is easier and more natural to operate than a traditional side zip while dual zipper sliders allow venting from the top or bottom.

Designed for use in different seasons and environments, the Mobile Mummy is offered in 2-season (30⁰; 1 pound, 13 ounces; $329) and 3-season (15⁰; 2 pounds, 4 ounces; $379) models. Men’s and women’s versions are available.
