Hurley Launches Phantom JJF Elite

The world’s most exciting surfer and world’s best boardshort join forces: The Phantom JJF Elite, Hurley’s first athlete signature boardshort, is the latest addition to the award-winning Phantom lineage.

The six-time SIMA award-winning “Boardshort of the Year” gets a new look with the design influence of Hawaiian phenom John John Florence. Featuring a Dynamic Livewire waistband, the Phantom JJF Elite is the most technically advanced performance boardshort on the market to date. With a design that moves with the body, the Phantom JJF Elite is built for the highest level of surf performance.

“John John’s style had a massive impact on our design,” said Hurley Creative Director Ryan Hurley. “His style is powerful, natural, dynamic, completely unapologetic; and ­he does all of these things in the most diverse environment. We’re beginning to adapt our product solutions and engineer them to his exact specifications."

The JJF Elite features a Livewire waistband, offering dynamic response to movement for maximum performance and secure fit, which holds up in powerful conditions. A double layer of 60 percent stretch Phantom fabric enables movement in the waistband, while an exclusive construction technique was developed to stabilize the multi-directional fabric.

A rigid cable is placed on the base of the waistband, while a zigzag stitch is tacked on either side of the cable, creating a tunnel in which the cable can flow freely. When the waistband is pulled horizontally, it is completely rigid and stable; when it is pulled in multiple directions, the base fabric is able to stretch and conform.

With pragmatic, sustainable technology, the JJF Elite takes the best features from its predecessors: ultra lightweight with bonded seams, 60 percent stretch, DWR water repellency and recycled fabric — 12 plastic bottles per pair. A new 21-inch length silhouette allows for increased mobility without sacrificing protection.
