Group Y launches new 101 event series

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF. - (November 20, 2014) – Group Y, a leading collective of industry professionals, announced a new learning series, “101” - a collaborative event for youth culture, marketing executives and influencers to gather and share their experiences, interact, educate and discuss challenges.

Group Y, who has produced more than 80 networking events and educating industry professionals since 2006, is kicking off it's inaugural event on December 9th at Lido Live in Newport Beach, CA.

The event, “101: Social Media & Digital Content,” presented by Group Y and FvS Media, will focus on optimizing social media and digital content with intimate working sessions featuring today’s power players shaping our culture through media. Participants will hear real world examples of successful initiatives from leaders in content and social marketing, aiming to inspire attendees.

“We’re excited to launch a new series that brings together like-minded industry leaders and influencers who share a passion for marketing and media,” said Mark Sperling, co-founder of Group Y. “Our goal is to spark new inspiration and ideas to influence their own projects and business endeavors.”

The social and digital brand marketers leading the first event, will help challenge conventional thinking and drive impactful discussions, all who have prominent voices in media and represent action sports, culture, entertainment and fashion.

-      Nick Tran - VP of Demand Creation, Stance. Dominating the sock game unmercifully and recognized as “Social 25” influencers in social media in 2013.
-      Scott Alexander - Director of Digital Marketing, Oakley. An award winning visionary brand marketer, product manager and action sports enthusiast.
-      Paul Kersh - Director of Marketing & Strategy, Vans Warped Tour. Oversees digital, mobile and social media marketing initiatives for the tour. Now in its 21st year, the Vans Warped Tour is the longest running traveling alternative music festival in the United States.
-      Fred van Schie - Founder of FvS Media. Previously he served as the marketing manager for Altamont, Emerica and éS. He launched FvS Media with the goal of helping brands, shops and athletes in the action sports industry to maximize their social media reach.

Attendees will engage with the speakers and participate in unique “Birds Of A Feather” interactive group discussions. Each group will be presented with a real situation that relates to social and digital media to collectively discuss challenges and find solutions.

The 101 series is created to provide thought-provoking educational opportunities to encourage professional growth among participants who work in youth culture & marketing. Future 101 events will be curated to represent a diverse range of business sectors and practices in branding, events, public relations and legal.
