LifeStraw® Water Filters Give The Gift Of Safe Drinking Water For Outdoor Enthusiasts Or Emergency Preparedness Kits

With each LifeStraw® purchase, one school child in Africa receives safe drinking water for an entire year

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Nov. 25, 2014 -- Two water purifying products make ideal holiday gifts for outdoor enthusiasts or for emergency preparedness kits. LifeStraw® Go is a refillable water bottle that transforms dirty water from a river or other unsafe source into safe drinking water. LifeStraw® Family 1.0 is a high-volume water purifier for camping trips or to include in emergency preparedness kits. For each consumer purchase of any LifeStraw® product, one school child in Africa is provided with safe water for an entire school year.

With LifeStraw® Go, users simply scoop water into the bottle, screw the lid on, and sip clean water through the mouthpiece. LifeStraw® Family 1.0 uses a gravity-based system where water poured through a container moves down a tube to an exit valve while being purified. Both products remove virtually all bacteria and protozoa that can contaminate water, and reduce turbidity (muddiness) by filtering out particulate matter. LifeStraw® Family 1.0 also removes viruses.

Award-winning LifeStraw® products use advanced hollow fiber technology. This highly efficient filtration method requires no chemicals such as chlorine or iodine. LifeStraw® performance exceeds U.S. EPA standards and LifeStaw® Family 1.0 meets criteria of WHO's highly protective category.

The suggested retail price of LifeStraw® Go in North America is US$34.95; LifeStraw® Family 1.0 sells for US$89.95, both plus applicable tax, shipping and handling. In Europe, it is 40,00 Euro for LifeStraw® Go and 100,00 Euro for LifeStraw® Family 1.0.

This year, the LifeStraw® Follow the Liters program was launched to empower consumers who purchase a LifeStraw® product to help less fortunate consumers without ready access to safe water. For each LifeStraw® purchased, a portion of the funds is used to supply high-volume LifeStraw® Community purifiers to children in developing countries. The first distribution took place in western Kenya in October when 1,646 LifeStraw® Community purifiers were distributed to 301 schools. Now, more than 157,975 students there have safe drinking water.

"The LifeStraw® Follow the Liters program enables Vestergaard to connect its humanitarian heritage to consumer sales," explained Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, CEO and owner of Vestergaard, the company that manufactures LifeStraw®. "And it enables a growing population of socially-minded consumers to help people less fortunate than they are," he added.
