Business news : Fitinsense Lauches in the U.S.

Kinematix announced the launch of Fitinsense, an athletic shoe fitting system to enhance performance and prevent injury, at The Running Event 2013 in Austin, TX. Fitinsense features in-shoe sensing of plantar pressure and provides information on body position and movement.

Fitinsense also delivers real-time personalized customer reports, imaging and customer follow-up capability for retail sports apparel and sports specialty shops fitting casual, competitive and serious athletes with footwear. Kinematix develops cutting-edge healthcare and fitness products that evaluate body position and movement to improve human function.

"Sports can put tremendous pressure on the feet, ankles and legs. It is essential for athletes of all ages and skill levels to be fitted properly with the right athletic shoe, in order to enhance performance and prevent injury," said Paulo Ferreira dos Santos, chief executive officer, Kinematix. "Our Fitinsense technology allows retailers to effectively engage with their customers and provides a comprehensive in-shoe assessment and gait analysis in just minutes."

Fitinsense is built on the company's microelectronic sensing, video imaging and documentation platform, to precisely assess the impact of athletic shoes on strike pattern (how the foot contacts the ground), the ground reaction time and the pressure distribution between the medial and lateral side of the foot. Fitinsense is the only product to measure foot pressure from inside the athletic shoe, providing a more accurate and effective assessment.

"Fitinsense takes the guesswork out of fitting athletics shoes. At the same time, it creates a unique in-store customer experience and an opportunity to cultivate a longer-term relationship with the customer," added Vincent Van der Pas, head of sales and marketing for Kinematix. "Fortunately, many common injuries, among both casual and competitive athletes, can be avoided by wearing athletic shoes that are appropriate for the activity, as well as for an individual's feet and body dynamics."

The Fitinsense system includes a thin insole with pressure sensors that slip easily into an athletic shoe.

Wearing the Fitinsense insoles, a customer's gait is videotaped and foot pressure is measured. Data from the sensors are transmitted wirelessly to the Fitinsense computer software and combined with the video gait analysis, and a complete report is provided in real-time.

PRO RUNNER, the first ever specialty running shop in Portugal, recently hosted the first Fitinsense demo at the Porto Marathon athletes’ expo, gaining valuable feedback from experienced athletes undergoing actual fittings. “The reaction was great,” said Cristina Romão, marketing manager of Sportibérica, a retail sporting goods corporation that owns PRO RUNNER. “The test is quick and provides confidence in the process, features that customers look for and which are absolutely key to providing technical advice on shoe fit,” she said.

According to the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS), nearly seven million Americans visited a doctor for foot- and toe-related discomfort in 2009.

Headquartered in Oporto, Portugal, Kinematix delivers cutting-edge health and fitness products that evaluate body position and movement to improve human function. Its technology platform incorporates wearable microelectronic sensing, imaging, reporting and documentation capabilities to support inpatient wound prevention and safety monitoring, as well as precision fitting of prescription and athletic footwear to prevent injury and enhance performance. It currently markets two healthcare products, which have received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CE Mark clearance.  Kinematix operates subsidiaries in the US and UK as well as an office in the Netherlands.
