Season Finale Race Will Mark Ten Years of Red Bull Crashed Ice in Canada

EDMONTON, AB--(November 12, 2014) - Edmonton will host the Ice Cross Downhill World Series Season Finale for the first time this March 14, as the country celebrates ten years of Red Bull Crashed Ice events in Canada. The season will kick off in Saint Paul, Minnesota this January, followed by Helsinki, Finland and then two brand new race locations -- Belfast, Northern Ireland and Edmonton.

The season finale stop is consistently renowned as the most iconic of the circuit, and Edmonton's will feature the longest track of the entire season. It will start within the city centre and will make its way down to the North Saskatchewan River Valley.

"As the sport of Ice Cross Downhill grows, it's very exciting to expose Red Bull Crashed Ice to a new audience in Western Canada," says Christian Papillon, Ice Cross Downhill Sport Director. "The city offers a perfect urban backdrop. I can tell you that Edmonton's final showdown will have the most impressive and challenging track of the whole season."

ATHLETE REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Fearless male and female athletes are now invited to register at www.redbullcrashedice.com/registration for the chance to participate in one of 10 Red Bull Crashed Ice Qualifier events taking place across Canada this January and February. A lottery will randomly select 200 men and 20 women (per qualifying city) to participate in each Qualifier, for a chance to move on to Edmonton's season finale race. Registration will remain open from November 12, 2014 at 12pm CET until January 23, 2015.

CANADIAN ATHLETES ON TOP

Two Canadian athletes currently hold top 10 spots in the sport of Ice Cross Downhill. Scott Croxall (Ontario) sits at second place, trailing only Marco Dallago of Austria (3800 points). Scott's older brother, Kyle, a resident of Alberta, currently sits in 9th place overall and will have the coveted opportunity to battle on his home turf this season. With Canada's long-standing hockey heritage, Canadian winter athletes will come out in the thousands this season to fight for icy glory, many even training year-round for the series.
