Adidas confirmed it has instituted a global policy banning dealers from listing products on the eBay and Amazon.com marketplaces, according to EcommerceBytes.com.
Last week, European publication Markt Intern revealed that Adidas would prohibit its dealers from selling Adidas and Reebok products on the Amazon.com and eBay marketplaces effective January 2013 although it was uncertain if it impaced U.S. sales.
Adidas spokesperson Michael Ehrlich told EcommerceBytes the company has been following for several seasons a customer and range segmentation strategy to develop and position the collections and brands of the Adidas Group in a way to best address its target audience's needs.
"As part of the implementation of this strategy we are regularly analyzing and differentiating our distribution channels across Europe," Ehrlich said. "Our new e-Commerce guidelines will ensure that adidas and Reebok will be presented in the right environment at all time."
