New products : etnies and Ryan Sheckler, Riding History Together for 15 Years through #etniesMarana signature shoe colors and apparel merchandise pack

May 23, 2013 (Lake Forest, CA) When Ryan Sheckler was seven years old, he was already an innovative skateboarder, inspiring guys twice his size and accomplishing tricks some people only dream of. etnies took notice and welcomed Ryan to the family, making him the youngest athlete in the brand’s history. A few years later, Ryan turned pro at the young age of 13 and began his evolution as a skateboarder, winning global contests, accumulating awards and impressing the world with his natural talent. etnies has supported him through his long journey and this year is proud to celebrate #Shecks15YearsStrong on #etnies. To commemorate the anniversary, etnies has created and released a short documentary, 15 Years Strong, along with a limited edition book highlighting the durability of Ryan’s skate career and the relationship between brand and athlete over the course of 15 Years. This is supported by his new #etniesMarana signature shoe colors and apparel merchandise pack. Watch 15 Years Strong here: http://etni.es/fifteen-years-strong

enties Presents: Ryan Sheckler’s 15 Years Strong

“Riding for etnies for 15 years has been amazing,” Ryan Sheckler said. “I have met, been able to skate and travel with some of the best skateboarders in the world, they allow me to design rad shoes and I have learned a lot about myself through etnies!”

Created by skate videographer Mike Manzoori, etnies’ 15 Years Strong visually tells Ryan’s skate history with etnies over the last 15 years through video clips, photos and interviews with industry vets, photographers and pros. Through their first-hand stories of Sheckler’s rise in skateboarding, Oliver Barton, Ricki Bedenbaugh, Atiba Jefferson, Mike Manzoori, Arto Saari and more explain how Sheckler became one of the best and most celebrated skateboarders of our time.

“Finding a skateboarder as talented as Ryan so early on in his life was incredible.  He has an amazing ability and has stayed focused on skateboarding – living and breathing it every day,” said Pierre-Andre Senizergues, CEO and owner of etnies. “It is a privilege to know that we have been a part of supporting him by building shoes that allow him to push the limits as he continues to be one of the best street skateboarders in the world.”

etnies, with the help of respected skate photographer Oliver Barton, also produced a limited edition book showcasing Ryan’s last 15 years through the photography of some of skateboarding’s finest photographers. With more than 40 photo contributions by Anthony Acosta, Oliver Barton, Atiba Jefferson, Rick Kosick, Shad Lambert, Sam McGuire, Jody Morris and Chris Ortiz, etnies’ exclusive15 Years Strong photo book will be available through etnies contests and as a gift-with-purchase of the Marana at participating retailers.

Don Brown, etnies Chief Brand Strategist, said: “I first hooked Ryan up with etnies when he was 7 years old. He had natural talent, great style and always a huge smile, which proved that he’s in skateboarding for the long term. Seeing Ryan continuously progress as a person and as a skateboarder over the past 15 years has been one of the best personal experiences for me in skateboarding. And the best part is that he still has many more years ahead to help evolve skateboarding to a whole new level. Thanks, Ryan, for being part of the of the etnies family for so many years and being an inspiration to millions around the world!”

In tribute to Ryan’s 15 Years Strong, etnies launched a Marana footwear and apparel pack, available now at retailers around the world and etnies.com. The new colorways of the Marana skate shoe, including maroon, dark navy and white, have matching t-shirts and hats within the Marana collection.

The etnies Marana was designed to blend strength and style, making it the perfect skate shoe for a Ryan Sheckler signature colorway. It was carefully crafted, piece by piece, to endure skateboarding. Its fused-on injected rubber toe cap makes it super hard to wear through, the lightweight and impact-resistant STI Evolution Foam midsole doesn’t pack out enhancing the cushioning of the Polyurethane footbed and the non-slip grip outsole’s thick herringbone tread with deep grooves doesn’t wear down
