SCS Magnum is a Pry-Bar and Bolt-Cutter Resistant Bike Carrier That Secures Bikes With Ease and Flexibility

The theft-proof bike carrier launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo

SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 3, 2014 -- The world's first truly anti-theft bike carrier, SCS Magnum, launched a crowdfunding campaign today, December 3, on Indiegogo in hopes of raising $90,000 for production of the bike rack. Magnum is a hitch-mounted two, three or four-bike carrier designed for car, SUV, truck or RV use.

Unlike other bike carriers on the market, Magnum is virtually theft-proof. It protects against bike theft with a solid steel integrated security bar that is bolt-cutter resistant and pry-bar proof. The one-piece, hingeless structure also eliminates any other possible avenues for would-be thieves such as dismantling the carrier itself or cutting at a weaker, hinged area. Instead of fumbling with cable or chain locking security systems that thieves can cut right through, one simple movement slides the steel security bar into place, locking up to four bikes on the carrier.

It was after personally having three bicycles stolen from bike racks on his car that Johnson decided it was time to create a better method for securing his bikes. When he learned that more than 800,000 bicycles are stolen in the U.S. every year, he realized that a larger crowd could also benefit from his invention.

"Anyone who transports bikes frequently knows the pain of making sure they are secure," Magnum creator Neil Johnson said. "Whether a bike is worth $200 or $2,000, no one wants to have to constantly park their car in places where they can watch the bikes or worry about their favorite bicycles being stolen right off their car."

Magnum will be crowdfunding on Indiegogo for a 30-day campaign, beginning today, December 3, 2014. The first contributors to the campaign will receive special "Early Bird" pricing on the two, three and four bike carriers. The two bike carrier will be $275, the three bike carrier will be $300, and the four bike carrier will be $325. These price prices are all at least $75 less than the eventual retail value.
