Media news : POWDER WINS Three Maggies, Including Best Overall Publication

San Clemente, CA (April 30, 2013) -- POWDER, The Skier's Magazine, earned three MAGGIE awards from the Western Publishing Association (WPA), including the 2013 distinction of Best Overall Publication. The 62nd annual MAGGIES were presented April 26th at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at Los Angeles International Airport with a crowd of more than 300, representing iconic publications such as Mother Jones, Sierra, and Surfer, to name a few.

The WPA awarded POWDER's December issue with the top honor, Best Overall Publication/Consumer, after selecting it from 1,200 entries from 24 states west of the Mississippi River.

"I was reluctant to submit the December issue for several reasons," said POWDER Editor John Stifter. "But it's a tremendous honor for the community of skiers and POWDER to be celebrated by publishing professionals for taking a chance during this age of media. We dedicate this to our fallen friends."

The December issue also earned a MAGGIE in the Outdoor Sports, Boating, and Recreation/Consumer category. POWDER won its third award of the night for Best Use of Social Media, with the Ski Town Throwdown Facebook contest.

"Bringing home three awards in both print and digital categories for the first time ever is a monumental achievement," said POWDER Publisher Ashley Otte. "Being recognized amongst the best journalists and brands within media today is an honor."

Additionally, the WPA nominated editor-at-large Matt Hansen's defining feature, "Nature's Feedback," from the December issue that answered the question, 'Why do the best skier's keep dying?' for Best Feature Article/Consumer.

GrindMedia's POWDER last won a MAGGIE in 1991, but it's the first-ever Best Overall winner for POWDER and their parent company, Source Interlink Media, which operates 70 publications.
In addition to clients, POWDER thanks all of its photographers and writers, who now truly have evidence that they are the best in the business.
