Portland, Oregon, Nov 19, 2013 -
Hi-Tec Sports, the global sports and outdoor company, today announced the appointment of Brian Cyr as US Product and Design Director for Hi-Tec USA.

As Hi-Tec’s first US-based product and design director, Cyr is responsible for the development and design of US-specific footwear. He reports to Hi-Tec’s Global Design and Development Director, Garie Sellar, in Amsterdam.

“Brian is the ideal choice for our first US Product and Design Director. He brings to Hi-Tec both deep experience in footwear design and the US outdoor market, and a personal passion for the outdoors,” said Simon Bonham, Hi-Tec U.S.A CEO. “We are excited to introduce his first, innovative designs to US consumers in Fall 2014.”

This appointment marks a return to Hi-Tec for Cyr, who was with the company for five years as Director of Outdoor Product Development, from 2002 through 2006. During that time, he created the Altitude IV day hiker, one of the brand’s bestsellers for the past 10 years. He also initiated, built and managed the satellite Hi-Tec and Magnum Design/Development Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Cyr’s extensive outdoor footwear design career also includes Kamik, where he was Product Line Manager and Lead Designer, Timberland, where he was Lead Footwear Designer for Men’s and Boots for five years, and Saucony, where he held the position of Lead Running and Performance Footwear Designer. He also has worked with Cyrious Design as a Senior Design and Development Consultant, with clients that included Patagonia and GoLite Footwear. Most recently, he was Director of Product Development (Outdoor and Casual) and Lead Designer at E.S. Originals.

“I am thrilled to return to my Hi-Tec roots and help this innovative company further expand in the United States,” said Cyr. “Hi-Tec is a company of talented, passionate professionals who are also great people, and I’m excited to be collaborating with them again.”

Cyr graduated from Massachusetts College of Art & Design with a BFA in Industrial Design. A lifelong New Englander, he lives with his wife and five children in southern New Hampshire, alongside a lake and near numerous hiking trails. In his free time, Cyr enjoys anything outdoors, including snowboarding, inline skating, ice hockey and baseball.
