Web news : Surf Directory Launches To Support Local Surf Shops & Shaper

An Innovative web directory, created by surfers for surfers, promises to connect local, independently-owned surf shops and shapers with more surfers worldwide

Nov. 25, 2013 - RALEIGH, N.C. -- Two East Coast-based brothers with a deep passion for surfing have launched a comprehensive web directory focused on helping local, independently-
owned surf shops, shapers and surf instructors get more exposure in this ever-changing digital world.

The site, TopSurfShops.com, features the ability for surf shops and shapers to have a listing and sell their custom shirts worldwide.Officially launched earlier this year, the site is one of the largest surf directories on the Web, dedicated to top-notch shops and shapers recommended by the surf community.

Drew Hill, a web designer/developer and board sports enthusiast, along with his brother Mark, who is a freelance custom fabricator, envisioned the website as a way to realize their shared mission of supporting quality shops and shapers through the sale of each shop’s t-shirts.  To accomplish this, they built a marketplace on the Top Surf Shops directory where surfing fans can opt for featured T-shirts each month, including throwbacks and one offs, by joining Top Surf Shops T-Shirt Club. Membership can be as short as 3 months or extend to a full year, with gift subscriptions available.

“We wanted to give quality surf shops more exposure among surf enthusiasts worldwide,” Drew Hill said. “Mark and I believe the surf shops and shapers are the cornerstones of the surf industry. To help support them, we have developed a two-fold strategy to promote them: first, by building an online directory, community, and local surf news websites, and second, by supporting the surf shops and shapers by selling as many of their t-shirts as we can through the marketplace. Our goal is to provide ongoing support for the surf industry worldwide.”

In addition, the brothers want to expand the support for surfing worldwide by donating a portion of each shirt sold to two crucial non-profit charities: SurfRider Foundation, a grassroots organization which keeps the beaches and local surf breaks clean through worldwide coastal chapters; and Surf Aid, a humanitarian organization with a mission of improving the health and well-being of people in isolated regionsconnected to us through surfing.
